Team Building Together with the Alaska Team

On Saturday, September 27, this year, our company administrators surprised us with exciting news—our annual team-building event, organized by department, is on the horizon. The anticipation was palpable as we rarely get this opportunity. Post-announcement, each department convened to decide the venue. Our team, after careful consideration, chose BASAMANGGAS, nestled in the scenic JASAAN. After finalizing all logistics, from what to bring to the menu and transportation, our department brimmed with excitement for both the team-building experience and the fresh venue ahead.

However, just two days after our meeting, the company made an unexpected shift in plans. They decided to merge all departments into one venue, essentially turning the team-building event into a general meeting for everyone. This sudden change left us in disbelief. Our department members were deeply disappointed by this decision, feeling disheartened that we weren’t consulted. The excitement, energy, and enthusiasm we had for the original team-building concept evaporated.

But ultimately, we understand that the company’s management has the prerogative to make decisions they believe are in the best interest of the company and its employees. The venue for the company team-building event? It’s at MAPAWA, located in Cagayan de Oro—a place that some of us, myself included, have visited numerous times, dating back to our student days. Despite our disappointment, we must respect their decision and make the most of the situation.

I must admit, I initially felt quite embarrassed about how our team-building plans unfolded. However, despite my embarrassment, I want to express my gratitude to the organizers. You might be wondering why I’m thankful. Well, it’s because I had an incredible encounter with my favorite PBA team, the ALASKA TEAM! Wow!

My basketball idols were in town as the Alaska Team visited Cagayan de Oro for their team-building and an exhibition game at Xavier University. I had the chance to take pictures with the team and even met the coach. It was my first-ever opportunity to see my PBA idols in person – Meller, Lastimosa, Junio, Cariaso, Hawkins, and various team staff members. Unfortunately, the player with the same last name as me, the triple “AAA” Aaron ABAN, couldn’t make it.

I believe Team Alaska had a fantastic time, too, especially during their thrilling Zipline adventure at MAPAWA. This team-building experience was genuinely exceptional and unforgettable for me because I got to see my basketball heroes up close. Check out these photos capturing our memorable team-building with the Alaska Team.
