Real Talk Earthquake Experienced Today

An earthquake drill is really important, I am 100% agree on that. This is to prepare us when an earthquake will arrive. The stop, duck, cover, and hide under the tables to avoid the falling objects. Then after the earthquake go out of the building and look for an open space where you will stay.

Our office is on the 8^th floor of the building and every time there is an earthquake we can feel that because we are on the last floor of the building. It doesn’t matter if that is slow, moderate or just like we experienced this morning in Cagayan de Oro the Very strong of intensity 6. But #realtalk, when I experienced the earthquake today around 9 AM that is 6.6 Magnitude and the epicenter at Tulunan Cotabato City Central Mindanao. The first to register in my mind is to run and to get out to this building.

The stop and hide under the tables of the earthquake drill are no longer applicable when you are in a real situation like this. 90% of the people in the 8^th floor registered first in our mind we want to go out in the building as soon as possible.

We feel the building sway while we are running downstairs and hear some of the building wall cracks. The panic during an earthquake is real; the adrenalin rush is there while going downstairs. It took us 2-3 minutes to reach the ground floor of the building from the 8^th floor and some of our officemates experience the aftershock twice this morning. I only bring my cellphone and wallet during that incident.

But the lesson that I learned on that experienced is that we need also to focus on what’s happening and what to do. In just a split of seconds, everything could be changed which we don’t have the control during that time.

According to the PHIVOLCS Cagayan de Oro experiencing the Intensity IV, which means it, is moderately strong. PHIVOLCS Regional Director also added during the interview over a local radio station that it is possible for CDO or Tagoloan to be the epicenter of a high-magnitude quake because of the active fault line in CDO and Tagoloan river. A 7.2 magnitude quake could trigger a tsunami that could reach a 15-story building. He advised studying our surroundings for a possible evacuation route. He further said they could never predict an earthquake. Preparedness is the key.
