Did you know that Cagayan de Oro Mindanao holds the record of the largest solar power plant in the developing nations around the world? Yes you read it right, and they called it 1 Megawatt Photovoltaic Power Plant built by CEPALCO (Cagayan de Oro Electric Power and Light Company). Together with CDO Bloggers members we visited this place which located in Indahag and it is our first time to visit this Solar Energy plant and I was amazed about this plant. I could not imagine that our City, Cagayan de Oro has this plant and help supply electricity in our city.
The solar power plant has 2-hectares inaugurated last 2004 and this solar energy and this said 1 mw can supply up to 900 residential of CEPALCO. Soon CEPALCO will extend this solar power plant at Phivedic Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental with a bigger place of 30-hectares and with 20 megawatts capacity powering more or less 18,000 customers of CEPALCO. This will help also the power shortage in Mindanao. One of the major owner of CEPALCO Mr. Abaya is very supportive with this solar energy to promote the green energy. Below are some advantage of Solar Energy Plant.
- Solar Energy is much more cleaner and greener than other power plants.
- Less maintenance.
- Solar energy is renewable.
- Solar panels are extremely reliable.
- Solar cells make no noise while collecting energy.
- In the long run, solar electricity is cheaper than buying it from the power company.
- You’re not required to connect to the power grid.
