After visiting some heritage churches in Ilocos Norte we continue our travel sa Norte Bai Tour by visiting another famous tourist destination in Ilocos Norte, the landmark and they called it Cape Bojeador Light House which is located at town of Burgos which is the fifth class municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines. It is an old Spanish-colonial lighthouse that surprised me because it’s still intact same as the Spanish Lighthouse of Corregidor which also intact and you will see that the foundations of this lighthouse are solid. Cape Bojeador Light House is a majestically on a hill overlooking the South China Sea which is approximately 35 kilometers north of the City of Laoag.
This lighthouse was built in 1892 and became the serving ships passing by the northern part of the South China Sea and they considered also the famous historical landmark in the province of Ilocos Norte.
This lighthouse was designed by Magin Pers y Pers in 1887 and was eventually finished three years later by Engineer Guillermo Brockman. It is a type of the Spanish Colonial lighthouse which is all masonry made with bricks that are widely used and produced by the area. The octagonal tower is topped with a bronze cupola and the viewing gallery is surrounded by decorative iron grill works.
The lighthouse is now using an electric lamp which is powered by solar panels after it was hit by the intense quake in 1990. Cape Bojeador Light House is also the highest lighthouse in the Philippines above sea level on top of a hill named Vigia de Nagparitan which is estimated a total height of around 180 meters high and active Spanish era lighthouse in the country.
August 14, 2004, Cape Bojeador Light House was declared a National Historic Landmark and on June 20, 2005, was declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine Government.
