3 Ways On How To Go To Camiguin From Cagayan de Oro

How to go to Camiguin

3 Ways to Camiguin If you have a plan to travel to Camiguin Island this summer but don’t have any idea on which route to take and the kind of transportation that can make you more convenient then this post is for you. Recently we visited the Island of Camiguin the Island Born of Fire together with our infant and toddler. Transportation is one of our concerns about this travel because we have infants and toddlers, so we considered all the options. We choose the best option that we think is more hassle for us and for our babies. I will share with you the options of transportation on this trip that we are considering.

3 Ways of transportation going to Camiguin Island

Bus going to Balingoan

This is the popular option that the traveler will think of first because it’s affordable. From the Agora bus terminal, you need to ride a bus going to the Balingoan bus terminal, around a 2 to 3 hours land trip with a fare of 150 to 250 pesos.

When you arrive at the Balingoan bus terminal you need to transfer to a barge going to Camiguin Island. The port and bus terminal of Balingoan is just walking distance so nothing to worry about. If you have lots of baggage to carry during your travel to Camiguin no worries because there are available porters that are willing to help you. The barge travel time is 45 minutes up to 1 hour with a barge fare of 150 to 180 pesos and a terminal fee of 15 pesos. Upon arriving at Benoni port you need to ride a motorcycle, van, jeep, or multi-cab for your final destination in Camiguin Island.

Ferry schedule from Balingoan Port and vice versa

Departure Time

3AM, 4:15am, 5:30AM, 6:15am, 6:45am, 8:45am, 9:15am, 9:45am, 9:45am, 10:45am, 12nn, 12:30pm, 1:00pm, 1:45pm, 2pm, 2:45pm, 3:30pm, 4:15pm and 5pm. Tips: It is better to choose the aircon bus because they don’t have to stop over much.

Van direct to Camiguin

The terminal of these vans is located @ the back of the Gaisano Mall parking area. The travel time of this van is around 1.5 hours up to 2 hours, because of its nonstop. The fare is 550 pesos including the barge fee and the terminal fee. You have the option to sit at the business class, which is air-conditioned, or in the economy class when you are in the barge already. You will be docking at Benoni Port.

Van’s schedule will start from 2:30 am to 3 PM every day.

Van also accepts bookings for your travel going to Camiguin.

Update: Option 3, the fastest is no longer available from Cagayan de Oro to Camiguin.

FastCat

The newest transportation going to Camiguin. It can carry more than 200 passengers. This is like a RORO type of vessel, which is the route, is from Cagayan de Oro to Camiguin Island to Bohol Jagna. If you ride FastCat from Cagayan de Oro going to Camiguin, you will be docking at Balbagon Port with 3 hours and 45 minutes of travel time. The time departure is 9 am and the estimated arrival time in Balbagon Camiguin is 12: 45 pm and departure from Balbagon port is 3 PM and the arrival time in Jagna is around 6 PM. Fastcat location is the national highway back of Petron station, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

This vessel Fastcat doesn’t accept booking, they only issue tickets a day before your trip.

It’s more expensive compared to the bus and van. Check out the schedule of Fastcat and the contact number.

Our best option for this trip is the Fastcat going to Camiguin Island because we carry 3 baggage plus our babies so we decide to choose this Fastcat. It is expensive compared to a bus and Van going to Camiguin but we are comfortable with this setup.

While going back to Cagayan de Oro we choose the Van because we have baggage to carry and they will pick you up from your location. Van is more comfortable going back to Cagayan de Oro because it’s one ride only.

But if budget is the concern I will recommend taking the bus to Balingoan and then Barge going to Camiguin Island.

From Camiguin, you need to go back to Balingoan bus terminal. Then from there, you can ride a bus going to Butuan bus terminal. From Butuan bus terminal ride a bus direct to Surigao. There is no direct bus from Camiguin or Balingoan to Surigao.

Yes, the van terminal for Camiguin is near in agora.Actually, it is at the back of Gaisano Mall in their parking area. You can ride the shuttle and inform the driver to drop in Gaisano Mall. Or inform them that you will be going to Camiguin and you will ride the van going there.
